Containers designed with safety in mind

Utz ensures the highest quality for our customers

Utz quality tests for reusable transport solutions

Ensuring quality & safety

Utz is committed to delivering the highest quality to our customers. To ensure our plastic containers meet all intended purposes, we implement a series of rigorous quality tests throughout the development process.

Our testing is oriented on industry standards, including DIN ISO EN 8611 for pallet testing and DIN EN 13117 for bin testing, ensuring reliability and performance.

To maintain consistent quality in plastic production, we:

  • Monitor demand and material consistency
  • Conduct damage impact analysis
  • Perform targeted examinations of relevant properties
  • Collaborate with independent third-party organizations when necessary
  • Conduct standard tests at room temperature, with additional climate chamber tests available on request

From the idea to the product

All requirements related to the planned product are summarised in specifications within the framework of an extensive checklist.

3D-display RAKO container

3D-display

Technical drawings form the basis of further development. This results in three-dimensional displays which enable an initial introduction of the future product.

Mould flow analysis

Mould flow analysis

The mould flow analysis offers valuable insights into the flow behavior of plastics, enabling precise tool optimization at this stage.

FEA analysis of RAKO box

FEA analysis

With the help of FEA, virtual components can be calculated on the computer and deformations and stresses under the influence of force can be simulated.

Material testing in Utz laboratory

Material testing

We ensure the reliability and consitency of our raw materials. This is important for:

  • Product and process performance: Mechanical properties like strength, flexibility, and impact resistance must meet the design requirements throughout the product’s life
  • Dimensional stability: Consistency ensures that parts retain their shape, size, and fit after cooling and during use
  • Durability and safety: Reliable plastic materials maintain their properties under various conditions (temperature, humidity, UV exposure)
  • Regulatory compliance: Many industries (e.g., food packaging, healthcare) require materials to meet strict standards
  • Efficiency: Streamline the manufacturing process by minimizing downtime and adjustments

  • Material Properties Analysis conducted at different stages:
    • Upon arrival of raw materials
    • During the release of Utz recycling material (UIC®)
    • During the evaluation of produced products
    • Through rigorous monitoring to maintain agreed product characteristics
  • MFR (Melt Flow Rate) Measurement: Assesses plastic flow behavior per DIN EN ISO 1133 and ASTM D 1238 standards
  • Density Determination: Measured as per DIN EN ISO 1183-1
  • Moisture Measurement Analysis: Determines humidity absorption levels to ensure material integrity
  • Incineration Tests: Conducted at 650°C to assess fiberglass content and inorganic fractions

Mechanical properties testing

Mechanical properties testing

  • Universal Testing Machine (UTM): Measures tensile strength per ISO 527 standards
  • Impact Strength Tests: Conducted via Pendulum Impact Tester as per DIN EN ISO 179
  • Crane System Tests: Assesses static load capacity with up to 2-ton max load
  • Compression Test Machine: Determines static breaking load with a safety factor of 3
  • Drop Testing Tower: Drops products from up to 4 meters to analyze fracture behavior under impact

Dimensional checks - Utz quality

Dimensional checks

Adhering to agreed product dimensions is crucial for maintaining product quality, particularly during development and early production stages. We deliver high precision and accuracy with rapid inspection times. Our 3D scanning technology provides a full-surface comparison against the original 3D model. To guarantee dimensional compliance, we:

  • Measure length, width, height and weight tolerances to ensure a high repeatability
  • Check base deflections using precision dial gauges
  • Use digital vernier calipers and resistance measuring devices for precise measurements

Visual inspection & optical tests

  • Spectrophotometer: Measures and adjusts color accuracy based on CIEL-Lab-System standards
  • Camera Table with Balance: Checks barcode labels' readability and compliance, storing container data for future reference
  • RFID System Testing: Ensures functional efficiency and data integrity
