Executive summary

To address the growing demands of warehouse efficiency, a pilot project was launched at VEGA Grieshaber KG, a leader in measurement technology. VEGA collaborated with Magazino, the manufacturer of the SOTO 2 robot, to integrate advanced robotics with Utz's EUROTEC. This initiative aimed to enhance operational efficiency, streamline material handling, and optimize intralogistics workflows within VEGA's warehouse environment.
The Client
VEGA Grieshaber KG employs over 1,750 people worldwide, 800 of whom are based at its headquarters in Schiltach in the Black Forest. For more than 60 years, this is where solutions for demanding measuring tasks have been developed in chemical and pharmaceutical plants, the food industry, drinking water supply, sewage treatment plants and landfills, mining and power generation, and oil and gas platforms, ships, and aircraft. VEGA operates in over 80 countries through subsidiaries and sales partners. The company and its products hold all the necessary certificates and approvals for worldwide use. This applies to technical safety as well as to the quality of its products and services.

The challenge
VEGA faced challenges in meeting rising order fulfillment demands while maintaining precision and cost-efficiency. Manual handling of small load carriers (EUROTEC) in high-activity zones was labor-intensive, prone to errors, and restricted scalability. VEGA sought a solution that could seamlessly integrate into its existing infrastructure to automate repetitive tasks without compromising safety or disrupting established processes.

The solution
VEGA implemented a pilot solution combining Utz’s renowned EUROTEC with Magazine's SOTO 2 robot to revolutionize its warehouse processes. The Utz EUROTEC, known for its durability, stackability, and compatibility with automation systems, was key to enabling the robot to execute material handling tasks efficiently.
The pilot deployment featured sophisticated functionalities, including key elements such as:
- Seamless EUROTEC integration: The robust design of Utz’s EUROTEC allowed the SOTO 2 robot to handle them easily, ensuring stability and consistency during transport and storage.
- Dynamic picking and transport: The advanced capabilities of the SOTO 2 robot allows it to maneuver and handle individual containers with precision, ensuring accuracy in dynamic environments.
- Flexibility and adaptability: The modular nature of Utz’s EUROTEC provides VEGA with scalable storage and transportation solutions tailored to evolving operational needs.
The pilot project at VEGA demonstrated the powerful synergy between Utz EUROTEC and Magazine's SOTO 2 robot. Key outcomes included:
- Boosted efficiency: Automation enabled a significant reduction in order processing times by minimizing reliance on manual handling.
- Optimized storage: Stackable EUROTEC improved use of vertical space, enhancing storage organization and accessibility.
- Elevated safety standards: Automating repetitive tasks reduced manual handling risks, aligning with VEGA’s commitment to workplace safety.
- Sustainability goals achieved: The reusable and durable nature of Utz’s EUROTEC supported VEGA’s focus on reducing packaging waste, contributing to a greener logistics process.

Key takeaways
Encouraged by the pilot's success, VEGA is considering an expanded rollout of this solution across additional facilities. The scalable and innovative combination of Utz EUROTEC and Magazine's SOTO 2 robot demonstrates how aligning advanced robotics with high-quality small load carriers can drive significant advancements in logistics, delivering measurable benefits in efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
